How did Piers Morgan react?

Piers Morgan was editor of the Mirror in 2002 when Dominic Mohan made a comment thanking "Vodafone's lack of security" for the Mirror's showbusiness exclusives.

Given the robust reaction of Piers Morgan to Louise Mensch MP's recent mistake at the select committee hearing, I wonder what response he had then to Mohan's comment?

If there is anyone with the appearance of a large kitchen cooking vessel who is more able to intricately describe, in minute detail, the precise dark shading of another implement used for the boiling of water than Morgan, I have yet to be sullied by knowledge of their existence.

For Sun readers: Morgan is the pot calling the kettle black.

Reporter Sophie GOODCHILD of the Independent July 1999 warned of phone hacking . Steve Nott ,also in 1999 went to Vodaphone and the media explaining how easy it was to hack a phone. Why did no one listen, I believe the sinister reason behind it was a lot of journos were hacking voicemail even back then.As for Piers Morgan ...No Comment....

Looking at the timelines of it all. I spent a lot of time myself trying to get the news out there. After I was let down by the Daily Mirror and The Sun because they didnt publish my story about the threat to national security I started to tell everyone. I wasn't going to let it lie. It would be very interesting indeed to hear about how Sophie Goodchild got the information from the story, where did she hear about the story, who told her etc. The news must have been spreading like wildfire. I was a determined man then and still am now and I wasn't going to let the likes of, firstly, Vodafone to ignore my requests to change the system and, secondly, let the likes of The Sun and Daily Mirror have one over on me. This was war, they let me down and I wanted my revenge. sadly they won !. However, the battle didn't actually finish. It laid dormant for years. The Daily Mail ran a story in 2000 and it was a centre double spread warning people, I'm sure Blunkett was mentioned in it.Goodman and Mulcaire imprisoned then following hacking charges. I though nothing of it by then, I'd had my breakdown once in 2000 and wasn't going down the same road again, thats why I didnt get involved and to be honest I didn't think it was necessary. How wrong was I ? After I showed the daily Mirror and The Sun about the security risk and their reaction saying it was going to be a massive story and then nothing, I really made a massive effort to warn everyone, everybody and everything. this included sending letters everywhere, calling everyone and spreading the word about my problem. Thankfully, I am still here today. At the time, I was becoming a broken man and didn't think I was going to get through it all. Work and stress related to my obsession to getting the public told. I'm not looking for any payback for my story coming out. I just know that what I know and how I was involved is extremely important to Operation Weeting the police investigation into voicemail interception. So there we have it. Just out of interest I Sophie's article is 3 months earlier than mine but its still months after my visit to TheSun in Wapping. Visit my site at www.hackergate.co.uk for more

In the same vein, five months or so ago Private Eye related a story from the Mirror newsroom, which is reproduced on the blog of Matt Davis here: http://www.matthewcharlesdavis.com/2011/02/14/you-should-hear-the-tape/

Over a decade down the line, much will now be deleted. A smoking gun for Piers Morgan may be a tall order. But we live in hope.
